The construction of The Inner Loop highway, in Rochester, N.Y., caused more than 1,300 homes and businesses to be razed. Once encircling the downtown, it now is being slowly removed. During the summer of 2023, I worked as a fellow for the Democrat & Chronicle as a part of The Revisiting the Rochester Narrative Fellowship. My summer was focused on writing stories about the Inner Loop Highway's past and the affected communities' present and future.
